ircII – an IRC and ICB client that runs under most UNIX platforms. It comes in source form and is completely free of any charges or fees. The ircII project is a group of people who maintain the source code, incorporating fixes and new features.

It is the oldest IRC client which is still maintained, the first version was released in the late of 1980s. Several other UNIX IRC clients, including BitchX, EPIC, and ScrollZ, were originally forks of ircII.

ircII is a raw client, which does not support aliases, windows, colors and some popular commands, hence the scripts, such as condor, were soon available. Due to the lightness and reliability it is in use until today, especially on older computers.

The project developer is Mtthew R. Green.
